NSU Law Alumni Represent at BCWLA Annual Installation Dinner

Chief Justice Labarga was the keynote speaker at the August 17 Broward County Women Lawyers’ Association Annual Installation Dinner, held at the Hyatt Pier 66. Cheryl Beth Bucker (JD 1997) was installed as the BCWLA Secretary, and she joins Immediate Past-President Jennifer Erdelyi (JD 2005) as a BCWLA Officer for 2016-2017. Jamie Finizio-Bascombe (JD 1993) is a past-president of the BCWLA and currently serves as a BCWLA Representative to the Florida Association of Women Lawyers.

1988

Karen Van Den Heuvel Fischer published her debut romantic suspense novel, Hidden Bloodlines. It is the first in The J.C. Classified Series. Van Den Heuvel has worked as an attorney, certified civil mediator, Registered Dietitian, teacher, speaker, and published author.

1991

Gary L. Brown, a partner with Arnstein & Lehr LLP in Fort Lauderdale published a book titled Florida Construction Defect Litigation. Brown is a member of the firm’s construction practice group and is Board Certified in Construction Law.

Robin Moselle is the Director of Client Relations with LAWCRAFT in Plantation, FL. Moselle spoke at the April 2016 No-Call Law Enforcement Summit in Indianapolis, IN, on the topic of collecting a judgment. Moselle is the current President of the Broward County Bar Association and member of the NSU Law Board of Governors.

Frank Terzo is a shareholder with GrayRobinson and executive partner and chair of GrayRobinson's Bankruptcy & Creditors' Rights Practice Group in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Terzo was selected to the corporate board of directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Broward County for a one-year term. The Boys & Girls Club’s mission is to help young people improve their lives by building self-esteem and developing values and skills during their critical period of growth to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

Jeffrey M. Ostrow, managing partner of Kopelowitz Ostrow P.A. in Fort Lauderdale, Fl, is currently representing Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte in a case involving an incident that happened during the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, Brazil.

1999

John Whittles a partner with Mathison Whittles was elected President of the Palm Beach County Bar Association in June 2016. Whittles is a Board Certified by the Florida Bar as an expert in Business Litigation and Civil Trial Law and practices in commercial litigation, employment law, constitutional law and election law.

2001

Elisha D. Roy founder The Law Firm of Elisha D. Roy, P.A., in West Palm Beach was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Greater Palm Beach County Chapter of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Roy focuses on Family Law and is Board Certified in Marital and Family Law.

2002

Karen Montas is managing partner of Johnson & Montas P.A. in Rockledge, FL focusing on personal injury law. Montas was elected to the position of secretary to The Children’s Hunger Project board of directors in August 2016. Montas also serves as chairwoman of the Brevard Cultural Alliance and a sustaining member of the Junior League of South Brevard.

Tule Cabrera has joined DCF/Children’s Legal Services in Miami, FL.

2005

Jennifer C. Erdelyi has joined the Board of Directors of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers (FAWL). The Board was installed by Florida Supreme Court Justice Barbara Pariente and the Honorable Patricia Seitz, Senior United States District Judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida at the FAWL Annual Meeting and Installation Gala, held in conjunction with the Florida Bar Convention in Orlando on June 16th.   Jennifer will be serving as FAWL’s Legislative Director for the 2016-17 membership year.  Erdelyi is an attorney with Colodny Fass in Sunrise, FL and handles business, regulatory, estate planning, and probate matters.

Valerie B. Barnhart is a partner with Kelley Kronenberg in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Barnhart focuses her practice on business transactions, data privacy and security matters and is the new lead of the data, privacy, and cybersecurity practice. 

2012

George L. Metcalfe, Jr., is an attorney with Richman Greer in Miami, FL. Metcalfe focuses his practice on taxation, international and domestic estate planning, probate and trust law, and corporate law. In April 2016 Metcalfe was been elected to the board of directors for the Belen Alumni Lawyers Section.

2013

Ernesto J. Buitrago, attorney at Buitrago Law Firm in Fort Lauderdale, FL, published an article with the Daily Business Review entitled, Should I or Shouldn't I? 5 Tips for Hiring an Immigration Attorney.”

2014

Joseph M. Morgese is an Associate with Hoagland, Longo, Moran, Dunst, & Doukas, LLP, in New Brunswick, NJ.  Prior to joining the firm, he was a Law Clerk to the Honorable Mary F. Thurber, J.S.C., in both the Family Part, Chancery Division, and Civil Part, Law Division.  Morgese is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey, including the United States District Courts of New Jersey.  He is a member of the firm’s General Liability Practice Group which includes automobile, liquor, premises liability, construction defect defense, as well as appellate practice.  In addition, Morgese is an Adjunct Professor at Montclair State University, in the Political Science and Law Department.

Zeshawn H. Mumtaz has joined Behar, Gutt & Glazer, P.A. in Fort Lauderdale, FL as an associate. Mumtaz focuses on debt collection and related civil litigation.

2015

Jordan Dulcie is an associate with Wicker Smith O'Hara McCoy & Ford P.A. in their Fort Lauderdale, FL. He focuses his practice in medical malpractice defense and civil litigation. Jordan is an active member of the Broward County Bar Association.

Lin Brett-Major (JD 1978) passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at her residence in Aiken, SC. Her professional career was spent in Fort Lauderdale and Miami area practicing as a federal trial attorney. | Obituary

B Jordan Stuart (JD 1988) passed away on May 4, 2016 in New Smyrna Beach, FL.
