- PhD in Law from the University of Salamanca.
- Master in Community Law (European Union) by the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca
- Research Fellow at the University of Naples. Italy (academic year 1994-1995)
Currently Professor of Financial and Tax Law at the University of Barcelona. (Since September 2001).
Professor Cañal Garcia has taught all subjects of financial and tax law.
Previously Professor Cañal Garcia was a professor of the Universities of Salamanca (course 1993-1994) and San Pablo CEU of Madrid (courses 1995-2001).
Professor Cañal Garcia is the author of one book, 60 chapters of books and articles in specialized magazines, 27 communications in congresses and numerous conferences in Universities in Europe, Asia and Latin America.
He is a participant in 17 research projects and various university exchange actions.
