1981

The Honorable Melanie G. May received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Center of State Courts in August, 2018.

1988

John Bristol has been named the Attorney of the Month for August 2018 by Broward Legal Aid.  Bristol has been an active volunteer with Broward Lawyers Care and Legal Aid for the past 24 years, during which time he has handled 43 pro bono cases in the areas of consumer law and bankruptcy. He has assisted elderly clients, homeowners facing the loss of their home to foreclosure and tax deed sales, and clients who are medically needy with substantial hospital debts. He has also helped clients reinstate their driver’s licenses when they were suspended due to inability to pay. Ultimately, John’s work enables clients to restore financial stability for themselves and their families.  Bristol’s Plantation law firm, Law Office of John Bristol, specializes in resolution of bankruptcy matters.

1991

Robin Moselle has been awarded the 2018 Russell E. Carlisle Advocacy Award.  The Russell E. Carlisle Advocacy Award is given annually to an advocate whose actions exemplify a personal and professional commitment to making justice available to the poor and disadvantaged. Robin will receive this award at the Broward Legal Aid 17th Annual For the Public Good Justice in Paradise event on October 25, 2018.

1994

Khila L. Khani of Khani & Auerbach in Hollywood presented a segment on CyberFraud at the RAPB+GFLR Annual Law Symposium.

1995

Gary Brown of Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr in Ft. Lauderdale spoke on a panel titled “Construction Project Disasters: Deals Gone Bad” hosted by the National Business Institute CLE. He also presented on a panel for a live Financial Poise webinar titled “Construction Defect Litigation-101.”

1999

Jonathan Yellin has joined Backer Aboud Poliakoff & Foelster in Boca Raton in the community association law and litigation departments.

2000

Elizabeth Ricci has been appointed as a local board member for the U.S. Selective Service System. Located in Tallahassee, Ricci will help decide who among registrants in her local community will receive deferments, postponements or exemption from military service. Ricci is well-known in Florida and across the nation for her pro bono work helping foreign-born U.S. military veterans gain U.S. citizenship. She has also been profiled by NSU as an outstanding alumnus for her work with U.S. military veterans.

2001

Matthew Thibaut has opened his new Palm Beach law firm, Haselkorn & Thibaut P.A., d/b/a The Investment Loss Recovery Group.  Thibaut specializes in helping investors (individuals, charities, trusts, pension funds, etc.) recover their losses due to stockbroker and financial advisor negligence or misconduct.

2002

Sean Sullivan has joined Shapiro, Blasi, Wasserman & Hermann in Boca Raton.  Sullivan joins as a partner focusing on construction liens and defects.

2003

Scott Smiley, founder/partner of the Concept Law Group, PA and an adjunct professor at NSU Law, presented Patents and Patentability at the August 2018 Sharon and Mitchell W. Berger Entrepreneur Boot Camp.

2005

The Honorable J. Andrew “Drew” Atkinson was appointed to the Second District Court of Appeal.  The appointment was made by Governor Rick Scott in January 2018.  Atkinson served as the General Counsel for the Florida Department of Management Services.  He previously practiced with the law firm of Broad and Cassel, LLP.  Atkinson, a veteran of the United States Army, also has extensive public sector legal experience, including service as Deputy Solicitor General and Assistant Attorney General for the Office of the Attorney General, General Counsel for the Florida Department of State, Assistant General Counsel for the Executive Office of the Governor, and Senior Judicial Law Clerk for the Fourth District Court of Appeal.

2008

2009

Peri Rose Huston-Miller has joined Schwed Kahle & Kress in Palm Beach Gardens as a partner focusing on construction litigation, architects and engineer defense, professional liability, complex business litigation, legal malpractice, insurance law and regulation, and employment litigation. 

Jamie Zuckerman is a founding partner of Segal Zuckerman in Aventura.  Her firm will focus on business litigation, family law and trust, and estate litigation.

2010

Jamaal Jones is an influential member of the Florida Bar Health Law Section’s Executive Council, assisting the council with financial reports of the section, updates to the Health Law Section’s website, obstacles to revising the Health Law Section’s Bylaws, legislative updates, student stipends, and more.

2011

Lindsay Massillon has joined the commercial litigation and employment practice group at Fowler White Burnett in Miami.

Jorge Freddy Perera has been rated AV Preeminent® by Martindale-Hubbell®.  He is a partner at Perera Barnhart, a Davie-based business and employment law firm. 

Bruno Renda has joined the insurance practice group at Fowler White Burnett in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami.

2013

Jazlyn Juda has joined Kelley Kronenberg’s Fort Lauderdale office as an attorney.  Juda assists in handling matters related to First Party Insurance defense litigation.
