Distinguish Yourself as a Leader in Health Law
By layering on a health law concentration, you can magnify the impact of your J.D. from Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad College of Law. A concentration in health law gives you a deeper knowledge of this complex, highly relevant legal arena, a greater ability to be of service, and a strategic advantage in the marketplace. Your concentration integrates invaluable practical experience into the coursework and identifies you as an emerging expert in this field.
Your NSU Law transcript will carry this designation for life, and your work will be recognized at graduation.

Other Curricular Opportunities
- A health law course offered in a Summer Abroad Program sponsored by NSU Law (only if prior approval is received by an NS health law faculty member)
- Other health law courses added to the NSU Law curriculum and approved by the health law faculty
- A course covering health law offered at a graduate level at another school within NSU, as approved by both a health law faculty member and the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs (the former for health law substance and the latter for receipt of law school credit)
Writing Credits
You must complete at least two concentration credits in a writing-based course or activity focused on a health law topic. Credits earned for this writing component will be counted toward the requirements for the concentration. Each of the writing-based courses counting toward the concentration must be completed under the direction of a health law faculty member but need not be graded by them. Such direction shall include, at a minimum, prior and final approval of the subject matter.
Writing-based courses or activities include:
- Papers satisfying the College of Law upper-class writing requirement involving a health law topic
- Independent supervised research projects involving a health law topic
- Moot court briefs or transactional competition memoranda involving a health law topic
- Other special writing projects involving a health law topic
In addition to the requirements described above, you must complete a 20-hour service requirement. You must keep an account of your health law service hours as you pursue the concentration. This may be fulfilled in a variety of ways including, but not limited to, active participation in the activities of PULSE!, the Health Law Students Society, pro bono legal work, or volunteer work for the health law or elder law sections of the Florida Bar.
Please consult with a health law faculty member or Jennifer Gordon: jgordon@nova.edu for pro bono and service opportunities.
Form Requirement
During your final semester, you must submit a Health Law Completion Form to the faculty coordinator(s) of the concentration for signature. You must turn in the form by the last day of finals for a notation to be included on your official transcript. The faculty coordinator(s) of the concentration may change from year to year, so make sure to confirm this detail with Student Services.
