Education:
Julie L. Agris, PhD, JD, LLM, is currently an Assistant Professor of Law at the Shepard Broad College of Law, Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Agris teaches and publishes in the fields of health law, public health law, bioethics, administrative law, and professionalism. Her research focuses on topics at the intersection of law and professionalism with an ultimate goal of enhancing policy recommendations to support the delivery of high-quality patient care in the health sector. Dr. Agris is known for her engaging health law courses and her interprofessional approach to teaching by including varied perspectives of law students, medical students, medical residents, and graduate students. She is a frequently invited guest lecturer on complex health law topics and an active contributor in her field, both locally and nationally, where she has been recognized with multiple honors, awards, and distinctions.
Prior to her career in academia, Dr. Agris practiced as a health care attorney on both the state and federal levels. She received a Special Act Award while serving as legal counsel to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Her legal training included competitive internships at the White House, the Supreme Court on behalf of CBS Evening News, and the U.S. Department of Justice.
Dr. Agris earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Health Policy and Management from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management, Brandeis University, with the support of a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Doctoral Training Grant Award; a Master of Laws in Health Law (LLM) from the Health Law and Policy Institute, University of Houston Law Center, and a Juris Doctor (JD) from the Washington College of Law, American University. She graduated as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, with high honors and high distinction, from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
