All students are members of the Student Bar Association. Each year the student body elects the SBA Council. Representatives are elected from all class levels. Essentially fulfilling the role of student government, the SBA Council acts as the voice of the student body at Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law, bringing forth concerns and student perspectives to the administration. Additionally, the SBA Council works closely with the faculty and administration to uphold the integrity and promote a positive law school experience. The student body is represented in a multitude of settings, with certain Council members sitting ex officio on faculty committees, attending faculty meetings, working with the University Pan Student Government Association, and sitting ex officio with the college's Law Alumni Association.
Additionally, the SBA Council has a strong relationship with the college's many organization executive boards. Charged with dispensing funding to many of NSU Law's organizations and ensuring organization-related endeavors are conducted in an orderly fashion, it is the goal of the SBA Council to promote the success and growth of all NSU Law organizations both within the NSU family and outside.
In addition to voicing student concerns and overseeing organization funding, the SBA Council strives to provide school-wide social and networking events, continuously updates the student body on ABA - Law Student Division initiatives, assists in charitable fundraisers, participates in many University-wide endeavors, and organizes and plans many major events such as Family and Friends Day and Barristers Ball for the College of Law community.
Should you have any concerns or ideas you would like to bring before the SBA Council or would just like to get involved, you are welcome to attend any of the SBA Council meetings. An open student forum is always provided at each meeting. Please see the Master Calendar for dates, times and locations of said meetings. With the exception of funding meetings and scheduling conflicts, SBA Council meetings are generally held at least two Sundays per month. Please email the SBA President, Annabelle Rosa on the Thursday prior to the next scheduled meeting should you like to have an item placed on the agenda.
